3,000 litres of cider were about to expire due to the first lockdown in May 2020. Europa-Park could not start the season as planned. The drinks remained in storage. It quickly became clear that there was no way the drinks would simply be thrown away. For many years there has been a close relationship with the Wild distillery in Gengenbach. Franz and Manuel Wild immediately offered to produce a special beer and cider brandy for Europa Park. In 2020, the products were then distilled in the Black Forest.
The apple brandy was made from a Scandinavian apple cider. After almost two years, the first barrel tasting with brandy sommelier Manuel Wild, his brother Maximilian and the gastronomy experts from Europa-Park took place in March 2022. The result was outstanding. Although the distillery had never distilled cider before and wasn‘t sure if it would work, the cider brandy tastes wonderfully fresh with a pleasant full-bodied apple aroma - perfect for delicious cocktails. Like whiskey, the beer brandy captivates with soft wood aromas and convinces mildly and roundly with vanilla and caramel notes and nuances of dried plum and roasted aromas. A light, exotic fruitiness is added by the hops. To get the taste perfect, the barrels with 800 litres of beer brandy and 250 litres of cider brandy are now turning their rounds on the big lake in the Austrian themed area of Germany‘s largest theme park. Strapped to the boats of the new themed ride ‘Josefina‘s Magical Imperial Journey’, the spirits are allowed to mature until spring 2023 to acquire their incomparable taste.
